To summarize, there are 3 ways to generate "tool tips" (small pop-up
windows): ALT text (in IE), TITLE (most new browsers) and Javascript (when
enabled). (TITLE attribute is not the same as TITLE element (tag)).

Browsers have long supported ALT but only the 'newer' browsers also support
TITLE. Rendering these texts still varies between browsers. ALT is required
"alternative text" for images and areamaps but TITLE can (potentially) be
used to display "tool-tips" for almost any element on a page.

Early this year, I supplemented ALT text where appropriate with TITLE
attributes for page elements.

In FrontPage 2000, to add ALT text:
Select an image (right click), go to Picture Properties. Middle of General
tab has "Alternative representations". Whatever is input into the "Text"
field is the alt text (check in HTML view).

Supposedly, new versions of FrontPage will also generate TITLE attributes.
Since I haven't upgraded, I input TITLE attributes manually.

Can anyone tell me how to create a text box that opens when the mouse
cursor is placed over a specific word or photo. I see that on sites at
times, and think it is really slick.

I am using FrontPage 2000.
