Subject: Deleted (?) file mystery

To the list,

I have a mystery that I could use some help with. I have been
using the same FTP program (WP-FTP95) for several years with no problems.

On two unrelated occasions recently I deleted (I thought) files
from my Freepages spaces but they were not gone! In both cases these
were*.jpg files which were deleted from my freepages spaces as a part of a
group of files. This was done using the WS-FTP95 program.

The files were APPARENTLY deleted and no longer appeared as being
present in the Freepages space.

When I uploaded newer versions (with the same name)of the deleted
files as well the pages in which they appear, the older (supposedly
deleted) files still appeared on the new pages. I have confirmed that the
newer versions of the *.jpg files which I uploaded were, in fact, newer
versions and not simply the same old files.

This was true even though I had removed all trace of the older
files from the Freepages space.

I had considered that the pages might somehow be displaying files
still present on my own computer but I got the same result using another
computer. I also changed the names of the files in my own computer so they
could not be found mistakenly.

I have now deleted (supposedly) the files once completely from my
freepages space. Again they no longer show as being present but the must
still be there. I have confirmed this by entering the URL of one of the
(deleted?) files and being able to view it.

An example - one of the files I deleted was FHHS8202a.jpg. It is
no long shown as being there. However, even now, when I enter the full URL
of the (deleted?) photo:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~camcopa/AHS/FHHS8202a.jpg

It Is still There! Where can it be hiding? Why doesn't it show as
being somewhere in my freepages space?

I am stumped!
