As a rough count your shortened page took 10 seconds to load under
Netscape vs the original
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~heron1/index.htm
of 12 seconds. What delays it is the page continuously reformatting as
it loads, and the delay times from the adserver which are appreciable.
Obviously dial up times would be different and times are very different
for Netscape and IE. I have not played but if the column widths were
defined as fixed and all the extra coding was fixed it would be a lot
better.
