You are absolutely right and you don't even have to be on a list to
get the spam. I haven't used the encryption until this past few
months when i took a course on improving your web pages and this was
one of the lessons. I figure, though, it can't hurt and is easy to do
so, why not.

I use Mailwasher and don't get much spam. I also use Gmail and they
have a very good spam program there.
