My RootsWeb Freepages address = Homepage of Ruth Swanson McGowen http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mcgen/index.html

My genealogy page was created using CoffeeCup VisualSite Designer (v. 3.0) and looks just fine on screen. Problems occur when I attempt to print.

First, on some computers any attempt to print one or more pages is immediately met with a message that IE has encountered a problem and needs to close. Repeated attempts to print are met with the same message.

Second, on other computers I am allowed to print out, but the first two pages are blank (except for the RootsWeb banner at the top of the first blank page) and the text material with the Ancestry.com banner starts printing on the 3rd page. Thus, what would normally be page 1 of my printed material is designated as page 3 and so on. In other words, a 10 page document will have 12 pages, with the first two pages being blank (except for the RootsWeb banner at the top of the first blank page).

It has been suggested (by Pat at, WEBMASTER Help Desk ) that:

"CoffeeCup has used absolute positioning for design/background elements. The spacing of those background elements is allowed for, before the page content is displayed on the printed version.

"I'm afraid you will need to remove those absolute positioning tags. If you need help in doing that, please post to the Freepages-Help mailing list. There are lots of friendly and helpful folks on that list who will be glad to walk you through specifics of page design."

Unfortunately, I know nothing about HTML. I hope that someone on this Help Mail list might provide some ideas (if not HTML code) on how to solve the problems.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Ruth
