Hi all...I'm new to this aspect of web publishing... as in the real "do-it-yourself" version. I have a site I created on verizon...nice and easy cut and paste designing. Now I am opting for recreating my site on rootsweb to do away with the other and expand the genealogy. I got my FTP hostname, user ID and password so far. In this introductory email, it tells me a tiny bit about when I upload, where I'll find my files so I can get to my empty site so far. I searched and searched the help and FAQs, finally finding the way into the site as an editor (I think). The email says very little about the actual process of putting the site together just that there are genealogy_html and family_html subdirectories.
Not to mention, I still need a nice "cheap" software to actually make the site. I have Microsoft Publisher 2003 but even that doesn't do a lot of hand holding in the process and I'm at a dead end when it comes to adding data which I had hyperlinked on my other site.
My question I guess......is there a more user friendly help section or reference point I might be able to find?
Thanks in advance....I'm not computer illiterate but I am new to this. Had to have happened to someone else too!!!
I also have not used these groups too much either so if I send it to a billion people the wrong way, forgive me. Colleen
