In the more recent versions of FTM after you generate the report and BEFORE you have exported you have the option in the Edit drop down menu to COPY the report. You just click on that option and then paste it into ANY application you want. You can EXPORT it to any Word processor in RTF format. Since most people do not like to work in RTF, after saving the RTF document you can save another version of the file as a word document or whatever type your particular word processor generates.

A few extra steps, but it only takes a few moments of your time.

I personally think that anyone who has used Generations (I use to and did like it better than the earlier versions of FTM although I had all of those, too) will find the new version of FTM to be even better. Just my opinion of course!!

Of course, you can also download the free version of Legacy. I tried it out and found it to be OK, but I personally like FTM better.

Hope this is of some help.

Has someone answered you Valerie, or have you sorted this now? It so happens
that I was playing around with my Generations last night - you DO have to
have the upgrade I am sorry to tell you. I don't think it is as good - but
there you go. You could make all your work into GEDCOMS ready to move into
another programme. If you go to: http://www.twrcomputing.co.uk/
For instance you will see that the upgrade for XP costs about £19.00 whilst
Rootsmagic which is good is £16.00

I expect you know that Generations was purchased by Family Tree Maker
recently and so I am sure they want you to use FTM. FTM does not seem to
write reports in Word though. Maybe someone knows a workaround for this.

Best wishes,
Jill

Hello,

Whilst not strictly to do with web sites, I wonder if anyone can offer me
some advice. I have Generations Version 8 UK which worked perfectly well
until I upgraded from Windows 98 to XP Pro. Since then I have not been able
to use it as it treats every addition as a new family. As I have put a lot
of work into this over the years, I am unwilling to start afresh with new
software. Can anyone suggest what I can do.
