Just to follow-up on my problem, I had the Statcounter help desk take a
look at it again and they said:
----
The issue was that the editor, most likely in WYSIWYG mode, added bogus
code to the following line:

var
sc_security=&amp;amp;quot;c1580d40&amp;amp;quot;;

I changed this to :

var sc_security="c1580d40";

After I did this the counter image showed up perfectly at the bottom of
your site.
----

That worked for a little while, until I used the WYSIWYG edit screen again.
The Statcounter help desk person said that WYSIWYG sometimes breaks HTML and
javascript code.

So when I use WYSIWYG to edit my page, I have to re-do the statcounter code
in HTML afterwards.
