I am trying to reduce the amount of coding produced by MS Word in my
website of http://www,pearson30.karoo.net

PRE is OK on my linked pages, but on my home page strings of spaces are
necessary as well as hyperlinks.

I did a small test case at http://www,pearson30.karoo.net/testnov.html
(click TEST at bottom of my home page) and it looked good; i.e. with
all the vertical lines in place.
But when I put PRE and /PRE in my home page I got those one line gaps again.

I feel I am getting close to right, but with a small error. Where?

This reduces my file size by about 90 per cent.
