I am using Windows Vista with the XP downgrade and IE 7,0. I have checked the
security and IE browse settings, to no avail. How can the proxy server be
changed?
At other times, an ftp page appeared without a dialog box first calling for
username and password, but attempts to open it in Internet Explorer using the
"Page" option produced the error messages again. This also happened when a
saved URL link was used to access the ftp folder.
It seems as if Windows is storing the password in association with a
previously used ftp URL, but in a manner that limits access to read-only--perhaps due
to one of those automatic Windows updates, since things last worked properly
in mid-January?
I have been reluctant to clear temporary memory and lose all my other stored
passwords--there must be well over a hundred, which I can never find when I
need them--but fear that may be the only way out.
