I have noted Pat Asher's comments, and the following system is currently
being tested:-

1.. YES and NO buttons.

2.. Clicking YES will disable both buttons.

3.. The YES vote will get sent via MailMerge to a R/W .txt file on the
server.

4.. In addition the UTC time to 1 millisecond (e.g. 200903271934562) and the
IP Address of the sender will also be recorded using the SSI command
<!--#echo var="REMOTE_ADDR" --> (available on the Freepages server) and
loaded with the page.

5.. Refreshing the page will update the number of votes recorded on the page
as the updated .txt file will be loaded using Server Side Includes.
Javascript will then tally the YES votes and discount any in excess of the
first vote with the same IP Address recorded more than once. The number of
YES votes will then be output to the appropriate place on the page.

The same occurs for the NO votes.

Hopefully this will be reliable and foolproof. As no form will be available
for spammers to fill in (they'll only be able to vote!) there shouldn't be
any problems from that source.
