Hi Charles,

The "Create a page" template in the Freepages Online Editor is very
basic, and has limited options.

However, once you have created your basic home page (index.html) you
can edit to your heart's content using the WYSIWYG editor in File
Manager, Komposer or any 3rd party HTML editor, or even NotePad.

The first thing to do is to save a copy of the page you want to
modify to your own computer.
These instructions will tell you how to add links from that page to
your subdirectories using NotePad:
http://freepages.computers.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pasher/basichtml.htm#links

For example, to link to a subdirectory named "cemetery" the link would be
<a href="cemetery/a_cemetery_page.htm">Cemetery listings</a>

Also see the page on naming web page files,
http://freepages.computers.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pasher/naming.htm

Spaces and "special" characters can cause problems with browser
access to files uploaded to the web.

Once you have made the changes to the copy on your computer, you can
upload the modified index.html using the Freepages Online Editor and
File Manager or any stand alone FTP client. Filezilla is popular and
competent.
