Can I second this. I have the same problem.
It currently takes well over 2 hours using Filezilla and multiple
transfers to upload a new version of my website. As this normally
results in a small number of error messages, I then have to run a
checker to make sure nothing went missing. This takes yet more time.
As an experiment I transferred the zip file of my website to rootsweb.
It took less than 4 minutes! I have since deleted the zip file.
The substantial difference in time is NOT due to the size of the file,
but by the time to set up and tear down 1000s of individual file
transfers. This must put a considerable load on Rootsweb's servers.
I do NOT want to store a zip file at rootsweb. What I want to do is
transfer a zip file to rootsweb
unzip it to create my website
then delete the zip file
The commercial web hosting service I use offers this service. As I'm
paying they're not concerned about whether I delete the zip file or not.
Rootsweb could offer a similar facility to upload, unzip and delete a
zip file as a single operation via their file manager. This would stop
people storing the zip file on the server.
