Written: April 13, 1756
In the name of God amen this ye thirteenth day pf Aprile in ye year of our
Lord 1756, I JAMES STEEL of ye Township of Little Britian in ye County of
Lancaster being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory
thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind ye mortality of my body
and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to dye do make and ordain
this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I
give and recommend my soul into ye hands of God that gave it and for my body I
recommend it to ye earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent monar at
ye descreation of my Executors nothing doubting but at ye general resurrection
I shall receive ye same again by ye mighty power of God. And as touching such
worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give
devise and dispose of ye same in ye following manner and form. Imprimis I
leave ye place I now live on to ye care and disposal of my sons THOMAS STEEL
and JOHN STEEL. And they are to pay and discharge all debts that I now owe.
And I order that there be know vandre made of ye land or house hold fourniture
till in November next. And I give and bequeath unto my son THOMAS STEEL one
bigg pott to him and his afsigns. And I leave my son WILLIAM STEEL ye sum of
ten pounds to be paid to him out of ye first call of ye place after all debts
and funarell charges are discharged to him his heirs and afsigns for ever. I
bequeath unto to my dearly beloved wife ELIZABETH STEEL and my doughter
ELIZABETH STEEL all ye residue of ye money arifeing from ye sale of ye said
land and forniture to be equally devided between them to them there heirs and
afsigns and I desire my dearly beloved wife to take and keep hir doughter MARY
NIXION untill she coms of age and at ye exfpration of hir timee. I order hir
to give hir one cow and new cloase such as are comon for bound servants to
get. Also I desire that by beloved wife takes care of my doughter ELIZABETH
STEEL. And I order my sons THOMAS STEEL and JOHN STEEL to pay ye money
amounting from ye place into ye hands of my wife so much as amounts to hir
part. And my doughter ELIZABETHS part to be put in intrist till she coms of
age or marrys. I likeways constitute make and ordain my two sons THOMAS STEEL
and JOHN STEEL my sole executors of this my last will and testament. In
witneffs whereof I have hereunto set my and and sale ye day and year above
written.
Signed, sealled and published, pronounced and declared by ye said JAMES STEEL
as his last will and testament in ye persence of us ye subscribers. ALEXANDER
DUNCAN and SAMUEL STEEL
LANCASTER FS. June the 12th 1756 before me the subscriber came ALEXANDER
DUNCAN and SAMUEL STEEL the witnefses to the foregoing will and on their
corporal oaths did depose and say that they were present and saw and heard
JAMES STEEL the testator above named sign seal, publish, pronounce and delcare
the foregoing writing as and for his last will and testament and that at the
doing thereof he was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding to
the best of their knowledge and belief. EDWARD SHIPPEN D, Rr.
Be it remembered that on the 12th day of June 1756 the last will and testament
of JAMES STEEL deceased was proved in due form of law and probate and letters,
testamentary were granted to THOMAS STEEL and JOHN STEEL the Executors. In the
said testament named they being first duly qualified well and truly to
administer the decedents state and to bring an inventory thereof into the
Registers Office at Lancaster on or before the twelfth day of June next and
also to render a true and just account of their said administration when
thereto lawfully required. Given under the seal of the said office by me
