Nothing shows up locally when I add the date code. I know I must not have
something set right. :-( Would love to get it working though.

But the template I was using I also can not get the includes to show up when
uploaded to rootsweb.
I've put it aside for the moment.
I downloaded another one of Pat's web templates and I'm editing that to get
the look I want.
When I change it to use includes using the same way I did with my other
template it shows up fine on rootsweb. I don't know why my other
plain/basic template wouldn't work.
