Subject: [GA-CEMETERIES] Harris Co. inquiry
Date: Tue, 12 Aug 2008 12:45:45 -0400
I am looking for some information about a cemetery I have located in Harris County, Georgia. I should explain that I am an Archaeologist with the Georgia Department of Transportation and I was doing a survey of a parcel up for potential sale by the Department when I located a cemetery in the woods. This parcel is located in Harris County, east of I-185, south of Lower Blue Springs Road, and north of Mulberry Creek. The cemetery sits on a ridge side slope and seems to have approximately 80-100 graves, marked only with field stones. A few are "vaults" of stacked field stones, but there are no indications of individual names, dates, anything...there is no obvious road access to this area and it seems to have lain undisturbed for quite some time. I have found no historic record or map with information about this cemetery and I hope you could help or point me to someone who might know something about it....?
Thanks for any information you can provide.
