I am interested in the old newspapers you mentioned. I was raised in Fitzgerald, but very seldom get back there. When you are at the library next, would you mind looking for an obit on my great-grandfather? His date and circumstances of death are unknown to me, and I would love to find his obituary if one exists.
His name was Brinkley Bishop, and he is buried in Oldfield cemetery. His grave marker bears his name, but no dates. He was born in 1811 in NC, give or take a year or two, and died near Fitzgerald sometime in i898 or 1899, as best as I can find out. He lived in either Ben Hill or Irwin county at the time, depending on when Ben Hill was formed. I know that he lived a few miles east of Fitzgerald.
Don't go to a lot of trouble, but if the paper is indexed, or if there is a list of obits in the library that might enable you to narrow down the date of death, I would appreciate any information you may find on Brinkley Bishop. He is mentioned in "The History of Irwin County," which I have a copy of, but there is no information in it about his death.
Thanks,
Paul Reeves
