Earliest information on Hiram Ray (1814 - 1882) located in "Pioneers of
Wiregrass Georgia", Vol III, by Folks Huxford. Please advise if you do
not have access to this series of books, and I will assist you with that
information.

In the Census for Berrien County, enumerated 7/25/1860, Rufus, age 22 is
listed in the home of his father, Hiram, age 46, Mother, Rachel, age 43;
brothers, Bradford, age 20; Benjamin, 16; Hiram O., age 14; Josiah, age
8, and Thomas F. age 3 months; sisters, Levina (Luvella), age 12; Joan,
age 10; and Rachel, age 3.

Berrien Co., Ga 1870 census lists Rufus Ray, age 31; Nancy, age 23, (born
in SC); Rachel, age 5; and Hiram, age 2 months.

Berrien Co. 1880 Census lists household of Rufus Ray, age 37; Nancy, age
36; Rachel, age 16; Priscilla, age 13; Hiram, age 10; Elias, age 7; Rayford,
age 4, and Kizzie, age 1.

Rufus Ray (the younger) first appears in Census in Lowndes Co, enumerated
on 6/7/1900, in the home of Raiford Ray, age 24, DOB 4/1876. In the home
of Raiford Ray is listed Hiram Ray, age 30, brother, DOB 3/1870; Rufus
Ray, age 17, brother, DOB 3/1883; Kizzie Ray, age 21, sister, DOB 5/1879,
and Willie Ray, age 11, brother, DOB 7/1888.

The neighboring home is occupied by the William Griffin family. Agnes M
Griffin, DOB 5-1879 is listed in this household, and Lowndes county marriage
records establish she and Rufus Ray (DOB 3-1883) were married on 12-11-1902.
Also in the Griffin Home is William J. Griffin, DOB, 4-1877. He and the
above named Kizzie Ray were married on 7-18-1901. In addition, Mary F Varnedo,
DOB 4-1875, and her children, Francis Varnedo, DOB 9-1891, Warren Varnedo,
DOB 1-1895, and Daniel Varnedo, DOB 2-1896 were living in the Griffin home
at the time Census was taken. Ms. Varnedo and Raiford (Rayford) Ray were
married on 12-27-1900.

Sorry I can not be more helpful. My husband is a descendant of another
South Carolina Ray, Franklin Ray.
