My ggg grandfather, Elbert Pitman, died in Sumter County Georgia (Americus
area) in 1843. He married a Nancy Counsel (Council) in Laurens County in
1811 then moved to Sumter County where he began raising his family. I have
been unable to track down his parents or where they were from but I suspect
that Elbert was born around 1785 in either Georgia, South Carolina, or
North Carolina. I also suspect that his father's name was either John or
William...probably John. Elbert's oldest son was named John Wallace Pittman.
Anyone who comes across an ELBERT Pitman please let me know...thanks so
much!
