Correction on my prior post . . . . . John and Jerusha STEWART were the
"grandparents" of Daniel STEWART, not the parents.
Daniel STEWART (b. 12-20-1761 in Dorchester, SC, and d. 05-17-1829 in
Liberty County, GA) was one of 6 children of John STEWART Jr and Susannah
BACON.
The Groover book (p. 234) says Daniel STEWART was married three times:
1. Martha PENDER (of Dorchester, SC); they had one son John STEWART, and
that Martha died at birth; unknown marriage date
2. Sarah Susannah OSWALD (of Liberty County, GA); married 1785; children
included Daniel McLachlan STEWART (b. 1791) and Martha "Patsy" STEWART (b.
1799)
3. Sarah Hines LEWIS (m. 03-15-1810); 2 children - Sarah Caroline STEWART
(1813-1815) and Georgia Druscilla STEWART (1814-1820).
The book says there is a monument at Midway Cemetery ereected for him and
General James SCREVEN by the U.S. Congress, and that both Fort Stewart and
Stewart County, GA were named in Daniel STEWART's honor.

> Found it, thanks to all of you. Fort Stewart was named after Daniel
Stewart who served with Francis Marion in the Revolutionary War. One site
states Daniel was a general and another a 16 year old boy!! Then another
states that his great grandson was Teddy Roosevelt. The fort was named in
1940 when Franklin Roosevelt was President. The Stewart line was in Liberty
County, Georgia. And, I still don't know if it is related to the Stewart
line who married the Thompson line. ld

Jane Stewart...not my direct line. I saw her father's will when I was
looking for something else recently. Now I am wondering if that was the same
family that the fort was named after. ld
