With Her Father

A special from Whitesburg, Ga., to the Macon Telegraph says: “Our little town
was startled this afternoon by the death of one of our oldest citizens, Mr.
Grant Roberts, aged eighty-four years and at the same time the death of Mrs.
McLarin, (a daughter) and wife of Col. McLarin, of Fairburn. Mr. Roberts was
the * of twenty-two children, seventeen of whom are yet living. Mrs. McLarin
leaves her husband and six children, all of whom are about grown. Mr. Roberts
has been suffering for some time with paralysis, and his death seemed almost
inevitable, yet no one thought on Friday last when Mrs. McLarin left Campbell
County and her husband and children to be by the side of her aged father that
her life would be extinguished with that of her father. As soon as she found
her father was dead, she fell across him exclaiming: “Father I can’t give you
up!” and soon she was dead. The entire community is sad, and we extend to the
bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy. The remains of Mr. Roberts will be
buried at this place, and those of Mrs. McLarin in Campbell County.

* Transcriber note: A word was left out of this sentence. Most likely it
should read "Mr. Roberts was the father of twenty-two children, seventeen of
whom are yet living." I'm not a researcher of this family and don't have any
further information.
