Subject: East Chicamauga Area / and Haynes family
Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2000 17:28:56 EST
What a day! This is my third try. First I sent in to ROTSWEB and got it
returned, then I left off the L. so here goes again.
I am trying to find out if the area known as East Chickamauga on the 1850
Walker County Census ended up in Catoosa County on the 1860 census by the
creation of Catoosa in 1853.
My ancestors were the Haynes living at household 36 in the East Chicamauga
area according to the census. My ggg grandmother was Martha Haynes, a widow
by 1850. She is listed as 51 on the Walker census. And at that time there
were 7 children still living in the household: Smith 27, Malinda G 19,
William A. 18, Lavinda H. 16, Louisa C 14, James H. 12, Elmina 12 twins.
Next door was an older son John Toler Haynes 28 married to Lucinda and having
a one year old son Samuel Haynes born ca 1849.
James Henry Haynes the 12 yr old son was my gg grandfather. He married Mary
Jane Cooper from Taylor's Ridge Valley. And I believe Malinda G. married Mary
Jane's brother Madison Cooper.
I am in the process of ordering censuses from the area at the FHL but they
are still on back order. So if anyone knows if East Chicamauga ended up in
Catoosa, also if any of Taylor's Ridge Valley (household 717 - 1850 census)
ended up in Whitfield I would appreciate some help.
And if anyone is connected with this Haynes family and has more information
to share I would like to know what happened to the rest of the family, and if
there are marriage, and cemetery books available for the area. As of now I
do not have Martha's husband's (my ggg grandfather) name. I could not find
the family on the 1840 Walker census but I plan to look again. I had a bad
copy with many names cut off.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give.
