This Act from Colonial Records of Georgia, "Journal of the Commons House,"
may help pinpoint Newington

AN ACT
To Impower the several Commissioners or Surveyors hereafter named to Lay out
and make such Publick Roads in the Province of Georgia as are herein after
mentioned and directed and to Continue to work upon Clear Repair and Improve the
several Roads already laid out and also the Rivers and Creeks within their
Several and Respective Divisions-
. . . AND BE IT ENACTED by the Authority aforesaid that the Private Road now
leading from the North West road through Newington Village be and the same is
hereby made and established a Publick Road by the Name of THE NEWINGTON ROAD
and shall be continued by the Commissioners or Surveyors hereafter named from
the aforesaid Village to the best Fording place above the Honorable Jonathan
Bryan's Cowpen on Great Ogeeche River to be made and kept in repair by the
joint labour of all the Inhabitants to the North and West of the New Plantation of
the Honorable James Habersham Esqr. as far as Pipe-Makers Creek down to the
Plantation of John Joachim Zubly exclusive and from Turkey-Hill in a straight
line to Great Ogechee River ten Miles above the Honorable Jonathan Bryan's
Cowpen And that The Honorable Jonathan Bryan David Cutler Braddock Joseph Gibbons
William Gibbons Esqrs. Matthew Mauve and Hugh Bryan shall be and they are
hereby declared to be Commissioners or Surveyors of the said Road-
. . . AND BE IT ENACTED by the Authority aforesaid, that this Act shall
continue and be of Force for and during the Term of Three Years and from thence to
the End of the next Sessions of the General Assembly and no longer-
