The land that is present day Ft. Benning land was lived on from
approximately 1830 until near the end of World War I (1918) when the
military training camp came into existence.

Do any of you have any personal stories about your ancestors who lived in
that area....and how they were reimbursed for the land? Did they move out
of state?

Were there actual deeds for the transaction filed in the Courthouse? How
would they be listed?
Surname - US Govt ??

This would have had such an impact on the two counties history, that I
think we would all benefit from learning about it.
