Good morning all,
As many of you realize by now, not only am I working on my own family history, I am trying to find family members of those buried in the Clapp Cemetery. As a result of my work on the Clapp Cemetery, I have joined approximately 20 extra surname lists. Normally the reading is very easy. . . but this morning I have received some emails which prompted this email.
This morning from a surname list, I (the list) have received (so far) 27 emails from the same individual. The subject line has been changed on most of the emails, but the message within the body of the email is the same. All the person did was re-forward the same email and change the subject line. Yes to help with quicker reading, it is a good idea to put the name of the person you are searching for in the subject line. . . but not the same message 27 times. After the first 5 messages, I started hitting the delete button when the emails arrived. I went back to my deleted file to count the messages. This person will probably not understand that some will read his emails and others like me will delete them.
If you have a group of family members you are looking for info on, try listing a general listing of surname(s), location(s) and date(s) in the subject line. Then in the body of the email make a list of the individual names, locations, and other info. It's a lot easier (and less frustrating for the readers) to delete 1 or 2 emails that don't pertain to their family than 27.
If you have anything that has helped you find your family lines, please share some of those tips with us. There are new researchers looking daily. Please help them learn from your experience researching. Think about it, wouldn't you have loved to have a person say "I tried this and got good results. But this didn't work for me. . . "
If you use a search engine (Google, Lycos, AskJeeves, Yahoo, etc) to look for an ancestry use " " marks for more than 1 name. Try reversing the name. . . ex. "Kemis Massey" when you've found all you can that way. . . "Massey, Kemis"
Oh yes, something that has worked well for me is the "Researching" listed after my name. It can go anywhere in the email. You will be surprised at where you can locate your relatives. It has worked for me.
Happy family hunting,
kemis
