Hi Janice,
I'm happy to hear you're enjoying my newspaper transcriptions. I enjoy
going "back in time" to see what type of world my ancestors lived in and
sometimes finding a mention of them in the papers. The best way to look at
old newspapers on microfilm is to obtain them through inter-library loan.
Check to see if this service is offered through your library, there is
usually a nominal fee to obtain the microfilm on loan and once the film
arrives it stays at your library for two to three weeks, which gives you
some time to go through each issue. Keep in mind if you're looking for
obituaries, a mention of the death may appear in the issue closest to the
date of death, but I've found that a memorial article for the deceased
sometimes shows up anywhere from a several months to close to a year
afterwards. Also, you may want to check several weeks-months before the
death to see if the person is mentioned in the news as being sick as it may
give more details on their illness.
If your library provides this loan service they will have a form you can
fill out listing the dates and counties you are interested in. They will do
a search statewide to see if they can locate the film for you. The
University of Georgia has a lot of film and has an ongoing project to
preserve as many old newspapers as possible. They also have microfilm for
sale at $35.00 per roll, but unless you already have a microfilm machine,
you'll probably want to try obtaining it through the library loan service.
I can tell you that Chattahoochee County news was most likely carried
through Muscogee County papers. At the time of this transcription in 1888,
the Marion County Patriot had a correspondent in Chatt. County who provided
the news to the paper. I seem to recall seeing social columns in the
Columbus Enquirer-Sun (Muscogee) papers for Chattahoochee County and other
counties in the vicinity.
Hope this helps.

Please tell me where and how you have been able to find these newspaper
articles! I want to search for some mention of my
Foster-Morgan-Coker-Brinson ancestors, who were in Chattahoochee, Stewart,
Webster and Muscogee Cos. from the 1850s up through the early
1900s.....don't know where to begin!
I enjoy reading every single one you are submitting!
