To List Members and Ralph who asked about Philip Bailey on the Greene
County, Georgia, list,
I am cross posting to several lists for counties adjoining Greene County,
Georgia. Maybe someone else can answer Ralph's Bailey question because my
Bailey files have never made it back to my filing cabinet. Still in one of
these piles on the floor.
I suggest you look in Wilkes County, Georgia, and its surrounding counties
for Baileys. There were a whole lot of them who spread out from the area.
Also in Lincoln County, but I am not on that list.
There are Bailey connections to my Edmonds line, but not in my direct line.
One of my ancestors was Francis Edmonds (Edmunds, etc) who died with a will
made in Wilkes County in 1795 and probated in 1799. An educated guess on
the birth of Francis Edmonds (Edmunds, Edmons, etc.)would be somewhere
around 1725 give or take a few years either way.
My great grandparents, James Edmonds and Sarah Pollard are buried in the
cemetery at Rayle, Wilkes County. They married in Wilkes County in 1849.
By 1900 their son, James and his family, werein the Durhamtown Community of
Greene County between Woodville/Temperance Bell Crossroads and Bethesday
Church.
My Edmonds line comes from Francis, through John who married Winifred
Buckner, James b. 1776 d. 1826. James married twice once in Lincoln County
and then migrated over to Oglethrope County for the 1820 census with his
father John and his presumed brother, Anthony. James m. Sarah/Sallie R/Ross
Bruce in Wilkes County in 1812. In the published marriage records their
names were mis-transcribed as Edwards and Brewer. Some of the Wilkes County
deeds were mis-indexed as Edwards.
Two of Francis and Rachel _?_ Edmonds daughters married Baileys. This is
proved by Francis's will of 1795-1799 where one daughter had married a
Bailey before 1795. Then before Rachel died c. 1824 after migrating further
west in Georgia, another daughter had married a Bailey before 1824. Given
names of these Bailey men have not been proven.
An Azariah Bailey witnessed Francis Edmonds will. Francis Edmonds and
Azariah Bailey are listed in the court minutes of Halifax County, Virginia,
for public claims arising out of the Revolutionary War. Francis Edmonds
first appears there c. 1768.
A William Edmonds m. a Rebecca Bailey in Wilkes County and migrated to
Alabama after the War of 1812 in which he servied in the Wilkes County
Militia. Parents of Rebecca Bailey have not been identified. My educated
guess is that this William who married Rebecca Bailey was probably the son
of Richard, the son of Frances Edmonds.
Some time ago I did a lot of posting about Edmonds and Bailey. Some people
sent me some rather large files on Baileys, but none identified the Bailey
men who married the Edmonds women.
Maybe the people who sent me the files will contact Ralph.

Hello Ralph,

I don't see any reference to a Phillip Bailey in the "History of Greene
County Georgia". The Baileys listed are:

Greene County Marriage Records

Nathaniel Bailey,
Samuel Armstrong Bailey
Simon Bailey
Louisa Bailey
Kitty Bailey

Other Greene County References

Dr. J. H. Bailey
John Bailey (an early settler)
John Bailey (Justice)
Richard Bailey (home near Lexington)
Lewis Bailey (Muster Roll)
