Hi Tom,
I'm sorry that I don't know the 'history' of the church at North
Cemetery. I feel it was located sort of near the middle of the cemetery
and it stood for as long as I can remember. I believe the church burned
and was never rebuilt. To be honest, I was quite surprised when the
church disappeared. I moved away from the area for about 18 years and
when we moved back 'home', I discovered the church had been torn down.
Maybe since Virginia grew up in that area she can fill us in on some of
the details :-) I'm really surprised Judge Huxford did not mention the
church in his books; I'm sure it was an older church because I remember
it being very small (as if it was maybe one room only). I know the
church was still there after my grandfather Dickerson died in 1962, and
when the 'scarry event' took place that I described in my other list
should have been around 1967-68 because I was probably 15 or 16 years
old at the time.
Sorry I can't be of more help. This could be a great 'project' for
those of us with so many ancestors buried at North Cemetery :-) Many of
the Register folks interred at North are also my ancestors so it's a
good bet we are related :-)
Regards,
Nancy
