The Marietta Journal January 27, 1898
ACWORTH
Miss Florence Watson left Thursday night for Jacksonville, Fla., where she will
spend the rest of the winter.
Miss Julia Strickland is visiting friends in Atlanta.
Mrs D A Tippin has issued invitations to the marriage of her daughter, Tinnie,
to Mr Robt J Hull, the wedding to occur Wednesday afternoon, January
twenty-sixth, at four o'clock, at the home of the bride's mother. (**)
One of the most delightful social events of the season was the reception given
by Miss Carrie Gregg on last Thurs afternoon. A very unique feature was the
solving of puzzles which were arranged about the parlor, each representing the
title of some popular book. The prize, a handsome rose-bowl, was won by Miss
Mary McDowell for solving the greatest number. At four o'clock the guests were
invited into the dining room where a sumptuous repast awaited them. The
decorations of ferns and violets were arranged in excellent harmony with the
elegance of the occasion. The affair throughout was conducted with that grace
and ease so characteristic of the hostess, who left nothing undone that would
add to the enjoyment of those present.
Dr and Mrs A J Durham know exactly how to make the young people feel at ease and
have a jolly good time, and fortunate are those who are their guests.
Mr John S Collins and Miss I'Delle Collins have returned from a delightful visit
to Cedartown.
Miss Annie Moore leaves this week for San Seba, Texas, to visit her brothers,
Messrs. Chas and Will Moore.
Capt Joe Cotten, of Thomaston, was in the city last week, the guest of his
sister, Mrs M J Abbot.
