Katherine Willingham Woerner
Martha Willingham b. 30 Jan 1827 d. 24 July 1885 m. (William) Fletcher
ELKINS. This couple is on the 1850 Fairfield Co., SC census next after
Martha's parents, Joseph & Mary Willingham, William ELKINS is 22 and
Martha Willingham ELKINS is 23; they have no children.
Joseph Willingham, father of Martha Willingham Elkins, was b. 1793
Fairfield Co., SC (1850 census) m. ca 1821 Mary Holmes Martin b. 1805
Fairfield Co. SC (1850 census), sister to Martha Martin who m. Elijah
Willingham, Josephs brother.
Joseph Willingham of Fairfield Dist., SC wrote his will 22 Jan. 1854,
Recorded 21 Feb. 1854--proven date not found. Will BK #10 p 372-373.
Daughter, Martha Elkins named in his will.
These Baptist references show that there was an Elkin family in the area
of Lunenburg Co., VA 1758, 1759. We know from Baptist history that
Daniel Marshall made his way from NC to SC to Richmond=>Columbia Co.,
GA.

p. 33 In 1758 the Separate-baptists from North-carolina began to visit
the southwest parts (of VA), about Dan-river and soon gathered a church
there which since hath branched abroad over most parts of the province.
p. 44 DAN-RIVER (Separate Baptist Church) [Should be in area of
Granville Co., NC] ...About the year 1758-1759 Duncan Lane preached in
this neighborhood, many baptized by DANIEL MARSHALL, some of the
separate ministers preached in the neighborhood not far from the Sawras,
but southward of the line dividing VA from NC. Dr. Dutton Lane became
their proselyte, and soon began to preach northward of Danriver, which
alarmed the whole neighborhood.
Mr. Marshall and the other separate ministers came over and baptized the
following persons viz. Sam. Harris & wf., John Mullen & wf. , Thos.
Mullen, Denson Rogers & wf. [Dutton Lane & wf.] James Cox & wf. Wm.
Edwards and wf. James Edwards, Robert Hutchenson & wf. Thos. Grissom &
wf. Thos. Calaway & wf & dau., JOHN HARDEMAN & wf ., JOHN LANGFORD & wf.
JOSEPH COTTEN, JAMES COTTEN, Robin Hooker & wf. Mary Duncan, Lewis Green
& wf., Isaac Middlebrook & wf. Eliz. Roberts, RICHARD ELKIN (Elkins) &
wf. RALPH ELKIN (Elkins) [NOTE: The daughter, Martha Willingham, of
Joseph Willingham whose will was probated 21 Feb. 1854 in Fairfield
Dist., SC, and his wife, Mary, married William F. Elkins (named in
will)], Thos Hargate & wf., SARAH & JANE WITT, Jonathan Woodson & wf.
THOS. AYRES & wf. Peter Greenstreet & wf., Mary Brown, Lawrence Barker,
Wm Barker, TILLMAN HARBOUR (brother of ancestor, ELISHA HARBOUR, of
