I know that this has been beaten to death, but I would like to hear the story of it. Could someone email the story to me if they dont want to post it here?
As stated earlier, my GF worked at the Durham Mine around 1910-20 as either a mine foreman or ran the commisary (stories conflict). He lived later along the rail line to Chickamauga. I would like to hear any stories about the Mine or the surrounding Durham area. Has anybody done research on this? Any info at either the Dade or Walker Geneo Societies? Any documents, or pictures. I would like to get any copies available.
I also remember going up to Lula Falls and Lake. My dad would take us up there often in the 1950's to swim. You used to be able to drive along the old RR roadbed from Nickajack Rd., around the brow to the Falls. We once hiked the entire distance from the main road (Hwy 157?) up across Nickajack Rd. to the Falls. It was a beautiful walk. The old RR roadbed was very visible. It brings back memories.
