~Mr. S. L. DENNARD is prepared to do all kind of repair work. He is a master
mechanic. Read his card.
~Mr. John C. FLOWERS is ready to furnish monuments and coping for graves. See
card.
~Mr. Frank C. DAVIS is an active candidate for commissioner of Agriculture. He
expresses a willingness to abide any action of the Democratic brotherhood. He
is opposed to a third party, but is an enthusiastic believer in Alliance
principles.
~Col. Wm. S. UPSHAW, so well and favorably known here, has formed a law co-
partnership with his brilliant brother, Col. Ebb P. UPSHAW, in Atlanta. Success
to these worthy gentlemen. Both are thoroughly versed in the law and are
honorable in all their transactions and dealings with their fellow men.
~President R. C. COOK calls for a meeting of the Newton County Temperance
Association in Covington on Saturday next, March 12th, at 10 a. m., in the
court house. All persons having petitions for signatures will bring them in on
that day. Every temperance man in the county invited to attend this meeting.
~On Feb. 27 the meeting of the Teachers Institute for the colored teachers of
the county was held in Covington. Seventeen teachers were in attendance.
Orthography, reading, writing, geography and the science of teaching was
discussed Commissioner J. S. STEWART expressed himself as being pleased with
the exercises. The next meeting will be held on March 26th.
~Election of School Commissioners. There will be a written examination of
applicants for the office of County School Commissioners at the Court House in
Covington, on Thursday, March 10th, 1892 at 9 a. m. The law directs that the
election of County School Commissioners shall occur on the same day after the
