Kim and others on the list,

You may not know that parts of that cemetery were moved to accomadate MARTA, which is Atlanta's rapid transit system. An article appeared in the Atlanta paper in issue 6 June 1984: " The Nancy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery survived the Civil War and an invasion of U.S. soldiers during World War I, but part of the old burial grounds will have to be moved to make way for a commuter train."

Consultants were hired by the Rapid Transit Authority to try and find out who was buried there and who were their descendants. This had to be done before workers could disturb the first spade of ground. The article goes on to say that of the 775 burial plots , only about 60 graves had to be moved, and of those 60 only 6 had markers. It also said that someone did some very extensive research to find out who was buried in unmarked graves (those to be moved and those not to be moved). The article also said that this information would be supplied to area libraries and historical groups.

Hope this helps some,
Naomi Vickers
