Becky,
There were two seperate families of Dillard in Fannin Co. They both extend from
seperate John Dillards. One was figure of prominance that was affiliated with court
house. The other is John Dillard who was from Washington Co. TN and that was the
father of William Love Dillard. Both John Dillards were born in the 1790's. William
Love Dillard actually moved into Polk Co Tn in 1851 after living in Fannin/Gilmer
Counties around Morgantown. William was an educated man that could read and write in
1850 so he must have had some extra skills in business and such. Although he was
listed as a farmer, but never owned any slaves. All his sons were listed as miners.

Another person is perplexed with a family member named Peter Dillard Jones and she
cannot find certain information to solve the question as yours, but we know her
Jones family came from the same area as my Dillard line and even moved to
Chattanooga TN later as did my family. The Chattanooga city directory helped us
piece all that together. Other families of that area that i connect to are the
Chadwicks or Shadwicks.

Go to Polk Co usgenweb and look at the Co. F 19th TN Infantry roster i submitted.
See if there are Davenports or Wallaces among those soldiers. If there is it would
show that your family probably crossed over into TN to join up and get a better
bounty fee. The people of Polk Co, Fannin Co and Cherokee Co NC were thickly kindred
and moved often to visit those counties over the line.

Do you see any possible connections.

best,
Jeff
