There was a marriage between Richard J. Johnson and Mattie Johnson in
Roane Co., TN on 16 Apr 1877; so his union with Mary may have been a second
marriage.[17]

A drayman is one who draws a dray. A dray, in this instance, was usually
two mules pulling logs or railroad ties. It is reported that RJ was in
charge of laying most of the Kansas City Southern Railway track through
Sevier Co., AR.

BIRTHPLACE:

On his death record, Georgia is given as his place of birth; this
information was provided by his daughter in Atlanta, GA.[453]
