I have just put up a web page containing over 5000 names, locations and
subjects from the index to:
Franklin M. Garretts' "Atlanta and Environs", a two volume set. This book
goes through events for mostly Atlanta, GA chronologically. Volume 1 begins
about 1820 and ends with the 1870's. Volume Two spans from the 1880's
through 1939.
If your ancestor is listed in this book, there is usually a nice write-up in
it. Franklin Garrett was known as the historian for Atlanta and worked at
the Atlanta History Center until his death. He started interviewing local
Atlanta citizens in the 1930s getting genealogical information from them and
recording it in notebooks. He was a wealth of information.

Click on "Atlanta and Environs - Volumes 1 & 2" link under "GEORGIA" on this
web site.
