I agree that if we assume that the EC will continue to hold the elections for us as long as it's not at national election time, we run the risk of them later saying they can't do it. I don't see why we can't do it ourselves. There is bound to be some question of bias, but if we plan it well, that should hopefully be minimal.

How about the current SC providing a list of possible vote-counters for the CCs to vote on?  Then if the SC picks someone that is perceived as biased, the CCs can say no - pick someone else. Or the current RAs being the vote counters, excluding any that may be running for the SC position?

Just a couple of thoughts before I head off to work.

I do not think we should write a proposal just for this election.

A two-year term is appropriate.

Judging from Joy's explanation, the EC is not likely ever to be able to
hold our state election at the same time as the nationals. If we want the
EC to handle our election, we will need to adjust our SC term.

I agree, Barbara, that holding the election ourselves is the only way to
assure that they are held in a timely manner. I would hate for us to
establish a time frame outside of the national election schedule and
somewhere down the road have the EC tell us at the last minute that it
cannot accommodate us. I am confident that we have the technical ability to
conduct the election ourselves.

So, here's the question:

Is the perception of bias a problem, if we hold elections in-house?
