Subject: JOHN WYATT and MARY BUCKLEY -- cemeteries in Henry Co.
Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2004 21:05:36 +0000
Can someone give me information about a cemetery that is on the extention of
Upchurch Road, east of Turners Church road now called McGarity Road. There
is a family cemetery there with old Wyatt families.
I can't understand why this family does not have info on the Henry Co.
Website as they are old founding families.
Is there a genealogist on the staff that could point our family in the
direction of finding this JOHN WYATT and Mary BUCKLEY family and their
connection that goes back to Adam Wyatt in England.
From Henry County, Georgia, Family Graveyards:
"JOHN WYATT, the Revolutionary Soldier, who came to Henry County and given in
Historical Collections of Georgia by Rev. George White, M.A. published 1854.
JOHN WYATT'S land lot was number 84 in the 7th District of Henry County,
adjacent to land lot no. 85 which was the land lot of WADE H. TURNER, near
Turner's Church.
In January 1972, soon after publication of Henry County History, a letter
was received from Douglas R. Davis, Mercer University, Macon, Georgia 31207.
He is a descendant of WILLIAM WYATT and had been researching the Wyatt
family, pioneer settlers of Henry County.
An abstract from this letter: - WILLIAM WYATT owned lots number 109 and 110
in the 7th District of Henry County. After his death, his administrators
sold in 1832, lot no. 109 to John Wyatt and the deed recites that three
acres of the lot reserved, marked and laid off as a graveyard. I feel
certain that WILLIAM WYATT and his daughter ELIZABETH (c 1812-1827) are
buried in this cemetery.
There are approximately 15-20 graves, all marked only with fieldstones.
P.S. The deed mentioning the cemetery is in Deed Book F, page 138. LEWIS H.
FARGASON and WILLIAM H. WYATT.
Adminstrators to JOHN WYATT's estate, dated March 12, 1832. Mr. Davis' mark
of the location of this cemtery on road map, is on the extention of Upchurch
Road, east of Turner's Church Road now called McGarity Road."
