FLOYD MALONE - Preamble and Resolutions
Ashler Lodge, No. 208 - F.A.M., Jasper County, Ga.
Again has old mortality reminded us of the instability of human affairs, the
vanity of earthly hopes and aspirations, the uncertainty of life and the
terrible certainty that dust must return to dust! Again has death insatiate in
his demands and ruthless in the discharge of his fearful mission eternal our
Lodge and claimed as a victim, one of its brightest Jewels, one of its most
honored and devoted members. Again have we been called upon to perform the
last and rites of Sepulture, and wear, the usual badge of mourning. Again we
are of the mystic faith Stricken in our membership and filled with grief and
sorrowing. Our beloved Brother, Floyd Malone is no more!
Suddenly he was called home by the Grand Master, which admonishes us, be ye
also ready for in such an hour as ye think not, the Master calleth for us. Our
Brother has fallen! In that brighter hour of existence the solemn signal was
given. He was called from his labor on earth to an eternal rest. In the midst
of a doting and interesting family, and surrounded by confiding friends with a
mind imbued with liberal and progressive ideas, a soul full of generous
impulses and a life guided and controlled by Faith Hope and Charity, the
prominent tenet of our ancient and honorable order suddenly, with all that
makes home pleasant and lite dear, crowding around him, has our Brother been
stricken down. Verily verily are the ways of our celestial Grand Master, the
Supreme Architect of the universe inscrutable and past finding out, verily are
his dispensations, through infinite in wisdom and fraught with mercy to his
dependent creatures, mysterious and incomprehensible to the lodge below; But he
gives and in his own good time he takes away; and we know that he doeth all
things well. Having commended his spirit to God who gave it, and his body to
the tomb, be it Resolved: That while we mourn the loss of our Brother and
moisten the sod that covers his body with our tears we bow in humble submission
to the will of our Supreme Master.
Resolved: That we tender to the family of our deceased brother, our sincere
condolence in this, their sad bereavement and loss, and commend them for
consolation and comfort to our Celestial Grand Master, the last reliable and
changeless refuge as a guide and protector for the widow and orphans in their
trials on earth.
Resolve: That this preamble and these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of
the lodge, and that a page on the minute book of the lodge be dedicated to the
memory of our deceased Brother, upon which shall be inscribed the date of his
birth and death and a copy be furnished the family of the deceased and the
jewels of the Lodge be draped in mourning, and the members wear the usual badge
for thirty days, also that they be published in the Butts County Argus and
Jasper County News.
Respectfully submitted James C. Maddox, A. P. Thornton, Osion Benton.
