Mr. Bernice Norton "Buck" Thornton, 67, passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2003.

He was born in Pierce County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict where he was wounded in combat, and was a retired auto body repair technician. He attended Deep Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 21, at Deep Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Burial was in the Deep Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Taylor Jr., officiated.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Lewis McLeod Thornton of Millen; two sons, Bernis Thornton and Layton Thornton of Jacksonville Fla.; two daughters, Starlatte Goldner and Deborah Brown, both of Jacksonville; two sisters, Lucille Dykes of Callahan, Fla. and Kathleen Clarke of Hollywood, Fla.; a stepson, Kenneth of Keysville; and 12 grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were: Randy Brown, Quinnie Lane, Jesse Johnson, Leonard Oglesby, Allen Smith, Buck Taylor, Donald Oglesby and Ricky McLeod Jr.
