Harry,
The VINSONS I look at were the children of John VINSON (1772-1850) and
Margaret "Peggy" CALLAWAY of Sparta, Hancock County, GA. These CALLAWAYS
were from Somerset County, MD. and John VINSON was born in MD. A
connection, I do not know. I do not list Obediah in this VNSON-CALLAWAY
bunch but who knows. It is probably the same family, though....
The SMITHS in Washington County, GA that I really look at are the
children of Rev. Jordan SMITH (1777-1835) and not exactly your Colby SMITH
but I carry quite a bit of information on them in case they match up with
Jordan. Jordan was supposedly the son of a Benjamin SMITH and a Mary THOMAS
of England and later Nash County, NC. Rev. SMITH married a Mary GAINER, d/o
William GAINER RS-VA and Martha WILLIAMS of Surry County, VA. This bunch
lived in Davisboro, Washington County, GA.
The reason I look at Rev. Jordan SMITH is because he lived right next to
Joseph MARSHALL, Sr. in Jefferson County, GA whose widow, Ann MARHSALL (ABT
1770-1845), died in 1845 and my GGU, James L. DANIEL (1814-1857), was the
executor of her will. Notice the WOODS name in her will. The Ann DANIEL
(1809-1861) listed in this will was the second wife of James L. DANIEL.
The SPEAR listed in this will was SPEIR. It seems they also had a
problems with names. <grin> James S. SPEIR (ABT 1820-1864), MG and Clerk
in Jefferson County, GA, seems have been a good friend of my GGF, Robert W.
DANIEL, Esq. (1809-1865), also an MG, since RWD drew and executed his 1864
will. RWD, my GGF, died the next year.
I think this Ann MARSHALL was a SMITH, probably a sister of Jordan since
they all lived right next to each other in Jefferson County but that is just
a guess. Rev. SMITH was also the father of William M. SMITH (1802-1867) who
married Elizabeth Jordan TARVER (1807-1877) and their daughter, Isabella
Charlotte SMITH married Gen. Beverly Daniel EVANS, CSA of Sandersville,
Washington County, GA in 1856 and second, her sister, Sarah Winifred
Patience SMITH.
Elizabeth Jordan TARVER was the sister of Judge Andrew E. TARVER
(1817-1900) of Bethany, now Wadley, Jefferson County, GA and he was living
right next to RWD and JLD in 1850-1860. Judge TARVER and my DANIEL bunch
were all over each other, financially and property wise in Jefferson County,
GA. The TARVERS and this DANIEL family were also all over each other back
in Burke in an earlier time frame. Judge TARVER also married a Julia Ann
DANIEL and I think she was a kid of an Ezekiel DANIEL (1788-1856) of
Washington County, GA but I have no proof for this assignment.
However, Julia DANIEL is a given name in my DANIEL bunch, since a Julia
R. DANIEL (b. 1842/1843) was the daughter of RWD by one of his early wives
and she married a Luther C. SMITH (b. ABT 1835) in 1859 in Jefferson County,
GA. I do not know who his parents were but I know they lived right next to
RWD in 1860 in Bethany, as did a Noah SMITH (b. ABT 1815) and his wife,
Wylanty WAY. I think Noah was the son of a Noah SMITH who lived close to
RWD's father, Robert C. DANIEL (ABT 1765-AFT 1830) in the 65th MD of Burke
County, GA in 1820 and 1830. That, is also a guess...
A few notes on this 1845 will:
Anne and Joseph MARSHALL Sr.'s children married: Joseph MARSHALL, Jr married
Lucy RAIFORD, John MARSHALL married Sarah GIBSON, Lewis Francis MARSHALL
married Celia Ann TARVER. Matthew MARSHALL married Cynthia INGRAM and a
Louisa Jane FULGUM. William J. MARSHALL married an Esther GORDON. Nancy
MARSHALL married Matthew U. WOODS and Mahala MARSHALL married Hinson
QUINNEY.
Also. Vienna August MARSHALL, listed in this will, was the d/o Lewis
Francis MARSHAL and Celia Anne TARVER. She also married Benejah A. MOYE.
s/o Capt. George MOYE, III (1752-1842) and Sarah GREGORY nee BRADBURY of
Washington County, GA. The Hamilton RAIFORD in this will was William
Hamilton RAIFORD, Esq., a sister of Lucy RAIFORD, who married Ann's son,
Joseph MARSHALL, Jr. The John WOODS listed as a g/s of this will was the
son of her daughter, Nancy MARSHALL, and her husband, Matthew U. WOODS.
The Michael WIGGINS has to be related to the John WIGGINS-Lurany SEAGO bunch
from Burke who were living next to my DANIEL bunch, up there, in an earlier
time frame. I never have been able to get a handle on McClenna MOORE but I
know the MOORE and the GREENS of Emanuel County, GA were close and RWD
married Rachel Rebecca GREEN (1824-1851), d/o Daniel GREEN of Emanuel
County, GA, as his 3rd wife. Robert W. DANIEL, my GGF, married about as
many times as my younger brother but I do not think his were for the same
reasons... <grin>
I have not figured out the LOCKHART connection, yet.
Do you or anyone else have any thoughts on all of this?
