Subject: [GALICIA] PAWUL from Galicia

I'm taking stabs in the dark about tracking the PAWUL and WALAENDER surnames
- both were from Galicia.

There seems to be a LOT of PAWUL's from Gwiazdow, some with the same first
names and all coming in the US from Bremen (cousins?) from 1900-1910. Would
seem to be that they were all related?

Frank Pawul, Age 18. Laborer. Gwiazdow. Galicy. Came to New York City.
Passage paid by himself with $18.00 in his pocket but supposedly joining a
brother in NY at 239 E. 3d Street. The story is that he was an 'orphan' but
doubt it as there are three clusters of PAWUL in the US and interestingly,
an Ohio cluster who swears their name was shortened to PAWUL (don't believe
that is true). There is a cluster in the Vermont area and the third cluster
in Long Island. I am very familiar with the Long Island cluster of Pawul's
who have stretched out the west coast.

I am wondering if any PAWUL's out there on this mailing list might have some
insight as to possible relatedness as I strongly believe we are related. Who
knows? Maybe that Friday night /brawl between the brothers in New York (or
similar situation) resulted in bidding each other good riddance - which
probably resulted a hole in 'our';history.

Aniela Walawender. Age 18. Arrived in 1905 from Bremen. Last residence noted
as Bieclaczow, Austria. Ethnicity: Polish. Know nothing about this family
but she married into the Pawul name. Looking for any family background on
the Walawender (possibly spelled Wallawender) again from the Bieclazow are
of Austria. Thanks
