Its been awhile since I made any inquiries, but I thought I'd try again. Do
any of these folks sound familiar to anyone.
My Great grandfather Murray (sp) Gallagher, who I believe was from Edinburgh
Scotland. I believe he was in the British Army in India for a while and may
have fought in Africa. I also believe he had seven sons, of which only three
survived much past the early 1900s. I don't know his wife's name. The three
remaining sons came to the US, Murray (sp), Patrick and Neil (my
grandfather). Not sure of what happened to Murray and Patrick, though I
think one settled in Vermont or New Hampshire and the other in Michigan. I
also believe one of them had at least two sons name Neil and Thomas.
My Grandfather, Neil, was born in 1892 and came to the States and settled in
Quincy Massachusetts where he worked in the shipyard as a welder. I believe
he came steerage. He married Bridget Bella Stewart who came to Massachusetts
from Greenock Scotland as worked as a domestic for the Cabots until she
married. Neil and Bridget stayed in Quincy.
Neil and Bridget had two sons, Neil and Thomas (who, as I mentioned above, I
believe had cousins with the same names by one of their uncles).
Neil Junior married Ida Jolly and had three children: Neil, Sharon and
Teague. They live in Jacksonville Florida and I believe all three of their
children are still in Florida.
Neil and Bridget's youngest son, Thomas, is my father. He married Dorothea
Kirk, also of Quincy and had one child, (me - also Thomas). Dorothea died in
1954 and in 1957 he married Joan Schwemin (also of Quincy) and had five more
children: Marie, Susan, Robert, Amy and Paul. All of us but Marie live in
Maryland. Marie lives in Cary NC.
I'm hoping some of this rings familiar for someone out there. I don't know
much more than what I've stated about the Gallagher side of my family.
Anyone??
