I recently asked for family history from my cousin, and this is what she
sent me:

Here is the information I think Sharon wanted on our family's Irish roots:
The Hall and Dunbar side of the family are probably Welsh and/or Scottish,
but the Gallaher side of the family is most certainly Irish.
Your mother (my aunt and father's mother), Ethel Emily Gallaher was born
Dec. 16, 1896 to Jane Walker and John Mansfield Gallaher who were married on
December 8, 1895.
John Mansfield Gallaher was born Sept. 10, 1875 in New Rochelle NY to Irish
immigrants John Mansfield Gallaher Sr. and Catherine Bannan. John was one of
10 children, 5 of whom lived to adulthood. The only siblings I have found
are: Ann, Catherine, Jane, Elizabeth, Hester (died in infacy), and Ellen.
John Gallaher Sr. was born in 1844 in Bandon Ireland to a Dennis Gallaher
and Anna Searles. He immigrated to the US between 1863 and 1865, and married
Catherine about 1867. Catherine Bannan was born around January 1845 in
Ireland (location unknown) to Christopher Bannan and Catherine Coleman. She
immigrated sometime between 1861 and 1863. Interestingly, Catherine never
learned to read or write english. The fact that I cannot find many Bannan's
in NY at the time indicates that she likely came over as a servant to
another family.
That is as far as I've gotten on the Gallaher side of things.

The Gallaher surname center is fascinating! I took a look at it last night.
I hope this is helpful. I forwarded your message on to my cousin, who may
have more information than I do by now.
