Jody,
I looked at the census for you. I wanted to get an image that I could just
send you, but with some fooling around with it, I still could not get it very
readable. So I decided to just transcribe it for you. There are actually 3
Cockran/Cockranes in Lumpkin County, GA. None spelled the correct way, but
that is sure not unusual. I have done lots of research in that county and
have run into your names from time to time. I have seen is spelled every way
imaginable and several unimaginable. Grin

Anyway, here is what I found:
On page 28 in Annicalola District, 1850, Roll: M432_76 Family #116
Francis COCKRAN 26 M Farmer 250? GA
Lydia 24 F GA
Elizabeth 3 F GA
Rebecca 2 F GA
John 1 M GA

The above family is at the bottom of the page, but I looked on the top of the
next page to see if there was more. There was not.

Then on page 27 are two more:
Family # 80
Alsam COCHRANE 58 M Farmer NC
Rebecca 50 F NC
Elizabeth 32 F NC
Rachel 30 F GA
Malinda 21 F GA
George 20 M Farmer GA
Davis 18 M GA
Polly 16 F GA
Melida 14 F GA
Janhusen? 12 M GA
Jacob 10 M GA
Afrea? 9 M GA

And just following this family is Family #81
John COCHRANE 28 M GA
Mary 21 F NC
George 8 M GA
Lafayette 6 M GA
Davis? 4 M GA
Harry 2 M GA
Margaret 5/12 F GA

There seems to be a number of similarities in given names in these families.
Hope this helps some.
Dolores Davis
