I am back from vacation. It is quiet out there. My maiden name is Garrett. My gg-grandparents and also their oldest son and wife were married in Lumpkin County. My gg-grandparents are William Riley GARRETT and Rebecca Jane WATERS, they were married in Lumpkin County on Dec 02, 1856. Wm. Riley's parents are William Martin GARRETT and Jennie JUSTICE. I think Rebecca's parents are John Stewart WATERS and Molly [last name could be LUNSFORD]. Wm. Riley and Rebecca had 3 sons: William Lewis, John and Joseph GARRETT. Wm. Lewis GARRETT married Sarah Arrena STANCIL in Lumpkin County on Oct 01, 1882. Sarah's parents are Harve STANCIL and Sarah HUTSON from Pickens Co. South Carolina.
My GARRETT'S were in Rabun, Lumpkin and Union Counties in Georgia. There are Garrett's in surrounding counties from these 3 counties and I imagine they are related, but haven't found the connection yet. My line went to Cherokee and DeKalb counties in Alabama, most of the rest of the Garrett's moved to Cherokee County, North Carolina and we think they are buried there.
There are also Stancil's in this area and I would like to connect with them. Harve Stancil disappears after the 1860 Pickens County, South Carolina census. Sarah Stancil appears in the Union County, Georgia census in 1870 with her children: William E., b. 1853; Sarah, b. 1860; Margaret Emmalissi, b. 1855; Letitia C., b. abt. 1858; John, b. abt. 1864.
I live in Oregon and hope someday to be able to visit N.E. Georgia and enjoy the rich history that so many enjoy and see the many places my ancestors walked.
