Just checked my notes on the Joe HARRELLS of Mitchell or Colquitt Co.
Mother called them cousin Joe HARRELL and little Joe HARRELL, not
uncles. My mistake. You say that Josiah had a son named Josiah Jr, so
I think
that these are the Joe HARRELLS she is talking about. Further
evidence:

The 1870 Decatur Co. census has:
Elizabeth BROWN (w/out J.D.),50
Viannah,17
Huda,15
Ezekiel,16
HARRELL, Joseph,9
I think this Joseph must be your grandfather. I don't know where
Rebecca is. Do you know when she died?
Elizabeth's son, James w/ Mary Della (BROCK) BROWN and their oldest
two children are two houses down.

In the 1880 MITCHELL CO census:
#406 BROWN, Elizabeth, 60
Ezekiel, 22
Huldy, 19
Joseph HARRELL, who would have been 20 yrs old is no longer w/ his
grandmother, Elizabeth.

#402 BROWN, James, 28 (ages of James/Mary off)
Mary(Della),25
(Son, Edmond in 1870 census must have died.)
Susan, 12
Dock, 9 (my grandfather;real name was
Jacob Boneparte)
Lee, 9
Seny,4 (died young of Mediterranean
anemia-genetic disease)
(Hattie)Bell, 1

Evidently, both James and Mary Della were carriers of Mediterranean
anemia. My mothers two brothers had the gene(beta thalassemia), as
does the only son of one.

Elizabeth's son, Ezekiel, died of a melanoma mole. Mother said he was
at cousin Joe HARRELL's when he died. Note in the 1870 census that
Ezekiel is only 7 yrs older than Joseph (Joe).
My mother's mother had a younger brother, Ed Merritt.
He was going to marry one of Joe HARRELL's daughters, but she didn't
marry him. He went to Pascagoula, Miss, worked at the shipyard and
never married anyone else.

Is anyone else out there related to this family?
