Wm. B. Collins, Sr. Passes Monday
William Bryant Collins, Sr., retired Mitchell County farmer and prominent and
beloved citizen of Flint community, died at his home Monday night at 8 oclock
after a days illness. Weakened with infirmities of old age, he had not been
feeling well for some time but was able to attend services Sunday at Flint
Baptist Church. During the day he became ill. News of his quiet passing brought
sorrow to numerous friends throughout the county.
Funeral services took place Wednesday afternoon at 3 oclock at Bramlett
Funeral Home. Services were conducted by the Rev. Burt Newsome, pastor of
Flint Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were C. S. Boynton, Flint; Jasper Groover, Americus; Robert G.
Collins, Boston; Judson Hall, Albany; John Collins, Cotton and Jack Stratford,
Albany.
Interment was in the family plot in Oakview cemetery.
Mr. Collins was born March 24, 1871, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles W.
Collins, at the old family home place at Flint where generations of the Collins
family have lived for more than a hundred years and where he lived his entire
life. A hard working farmer, loyal friend and neighbor, Mr. Collins will be
remembered for his many fine rugged traits of character handed down by his
forebears, pioneer settlers of this section. His wife the former Annie Laurie
Calhoun, preceded him in death in March, 1947.
Surviving are his two sons, W. B. Collins, Jr., and Lewis B. Collins, both of
the Flint community and one daughter, Mrs. Ted Willis of Atlanta. His two
sisters surviving are Mrs. S.C. Boynton, Flint and Mrs. Hattie Black, Long
Beach, Calif. There are four grandchildren.
