Thomas Sellers and Suzie West are not in my direct line but I know
something about them and have seen their graves at Hopeful Cemetary. My
Grandmother, Bertha Sellers Draffin told me about them and the
circumstances of "Uncle Tom's " death. She was present when it happened.
Thomas Sellers was my Grandmother's uncle (her father William Sellers
was Tom's brother). Suzie West Sellers was my Grandmother's aunt (her
mother, Georgia West, was Suzie's sister.) So the families were very
close. My grandmother was a child. They were visiting her Uncle Tom and
Aunt Sue and their family. While they were there Tom and Sue's daughter
Zula ran off with an older man named Columbus Huey. He had been married
before and his wife had died in suspicious circumstances and many people
thought he had killed her. Columbus secretly picked up Zula from her
home in a horse and buggy. When they realized she had gone Uncle Tom
pursued them on horseback. When he caught up with them Columbus Huey
shot and killed Uncle Tom in the road. Zula went on off with Columbus. I
don't know whether there was a trial or what. I do know that my
Grandmother and Zula visited when they were both old and Zula told her
some sad and mean things that went on in her years of being married to
Columbus Huey.
