Rich,

I have information on a John Gardner/Garnett/Gannet born (most likely in
England) in about 1624.

There are several different spellings of the name Gardner recorded in early
records. Other spellings include: Garner, Gardiner, Gardener, Gearner,
Garnett and perhaps others.

At about age nine, John came from England with Kenelm Winslow as an
indentured servent. They arrived in Marshfield, Plymouth, MA in 1633.
Kenelm was the brother of Edward Winslow who was the first settler in
Marshfield. John was transfered over to George Knerick 2/22/1635, as a
yeoman apprentice (In that time a yeoman was a farmer who cultivates his
own land, especially a member of a former class of small freeholding
farmers in England.) He became a freeman 11/2/1640 at age 16 and was
living in Duxbury in 1640 where he was a land owner (at that time Duxbury,
located at the southern boarder of Marshfield, was a part of the town of
Plymouth). The next record of him indicates he received a land grant in the
south part of Hingham in 1656.

After his death, widow Mary married Nathaniel Chubbuck on 6/18/1669.

Let me know if this is of interest to you.
